A couple of weeks ago I took the 81 to a local spring shop to see what could be done ... nothing according to them except replace them and they didn't know of a source. When I told them I knew where I could get a set and the price, they said it was a good deal.

Got some new rear leaf springs today. I ordered them from Joe Pollard last week and he had them shipped direct from the company that makes them for him. Just one more project to get done in the next month.

BTW: they come in two "flavors", 5 leaf and 6 leaf. The 18 Marathon has 5 leaf; the 82 LPG Taxicab has 6 leaf.

John,
I to was wondering about leaf springs when I had my Checker. I would go over those speed bumps at Grocery store and it seemed like it didnt have no leaf springs. I then bought some heavy duty shocks that are for motor homes. Wow what a difference. I could Imagine Heavy duty Shocks and New Leaf springs. I would of became a back seat Checker Driver.

I've had KYB gas shocks on the car almost since I brought it home. When I started pulling a trailer on a regular basis recently, it became apparent I needed to replace the springs. If I wasn't so broke from a wedding coming up in 3 weeks, i would consider the sway bars also.

I purchased a set of leaf springs for my Aerobus from Joe Pollard the fit like a charm. Manufactured by the original company that produced them. John good luck with your wedding in the coming weeks.
