I'm looking for information on the Checker Diesels. Does anybody know of a source?
I'm wondering about the feasibility of converting mine to diesel power.
As I recall, the engine was a Perkins (4-236?).
I actually looked into the possibility of buying one when they were in production, but I was too late. The salesman told me they were only produced for a year or 2 because they didn't really work. He said there were clearance problems and they couldn't use the harmonic balancer or the proper fuel filter. It seems that either of those problems could have been solved so I tend to doubt him. I've found that salesmen are not always the best source of information.

Oh, yeah. I forgot about the later GM powered version. That might be easier, though less distinctive. Obviously, I wouldn't want to use a 350 (5.7) but a 6.2 might be ok. I was thinking 60's because my Checker is a '64.
