Hi to all!! I popped in to this site to see if I could have a few questions answered about part interchangability. After looking around, I guess not.
I was a former member, at least to this site, when it was a free post site.
I deleted me account for personal reasons and have not regretted it.
All I would really like to know is are there any generic parts? The local autozone has brake calipers, no flex lines. Same response from other local suppliers. I need the lines very soon, my body guy is waiting!
I live near Detroit and it seems that anyone I ask for Checker parts gets $$$ in their eyes. I feel that these are simple parts for a simple car and not worth that much. Truth to tell, I wish I never bought it.
If anyone is looking to help a guy out with some info (for free) I'm all ears. If not, I am more than happy to sell off all parts and have my 43 thousand dollar basket case cut up into tiny pieces and cut my loss.
Some dreams must die.
Thanks, onebadhotrod@hotmail.com |

Discouraged,
Most of the site (over 70%) is still free to read or view.
You didn't mention what year your Checker. You did mention calipers which implies disc brakes. But without the year I don't know if you are dealing with the 1969 rare Pontiac setup or the more common 70's on Chevy full size setup. A lot of the parts information can be found by searching the various posts. Almost all the running gear is GM for all cars after mid 1973. For cars from 1964 to mid 1969, the engine is GM. From mid 1969 through mid 73 all the running gear except the transmission is GM.
As to brake lines specifically, it's all going to depend on the year. The major parts suppliers such as Auto Zone, NAPA, Advanced and O'Reileys each have some informaiton on Checkers in their computers but no one has a complete list. Quite often they have the part on the shelf but don't list it under Checker.
If you haven't already done so, you should read this article on Buying Your First Checker which describes the differences between the various years.
Now as to the actual Checker manuals, parts interchange lists, etc. ... the Checker Car Club of America has permission to use those documents FOR CLUB MEMBERS ONLY, not for public posting ... so that section of the web site along with the photo galleries containing original advertising documents, corporate photos, etc. require membership in the CCCoA, Inc.
It's only $25 a year which is a bargain considering it gets you access to manuals and about 10 years of newsletter back issues PLUS the next four issues of the 20 page newsletter. One manual alone on eBay will cost you from $50 to $85.

Try www.inlinetube.com They are local to you (Michigan), and though they don't list Checker specifically, they offer American brake line kits in steel and stainless that probably could work. Hoses, cables, brake valves, etc.
Good luck in your search.... _________________ 1971 Checker A12 Marathon (350 cu in) |
