The June 3, 2007 Ypsilanti Orphan Show is honoring "The Cars of Kalamazoo" this year at their annual event. About 300 orphans normally attend.
This show has also been designated a "National Checker Meet" by our club.
For those who have never attended, original cars, dents, rust and all, are much preferred to showroom quality cars. Of course, fully restored cars are also welcome but the emphasis is on "everyday" cars. Along with putting the cars on display, there is a parade by make past a reviewing stand so attendees can easily see all the cars. If you remember to provide information about your car when you register, the car will be described when it passes the reviewing stand.
Since they are honoring (among others) Checkers, the Checker Club is being given the place of honor in the "circle area" right by the main entrance. Normally this is reserved for the "brass cars" (every early automobiles). So Checker will be receiving a LOT of exposure at the show. Expect to see national and maybe even international media companies.
Club members in Michigan and those within a day's easy drive ("two states out" including Canada) should have received flyers in the mail about the show. Another flyer describing the Saturday pre-show motor tour is also being mailed.
I have uploaded copies of the show poster, the show flyer, and the pre-show press release into a National Show Photo Album.
Finally, people who are wavering because their car isn't in perfect shape, you will be welcome. One Checker owner has taken their car, rust, bondo, mismatched paint and all, the last several years and been very welcome. It just needs to be safe to drive.

As of April 16th, there were 21 Checkers registered, mostly 60's - 80's A-12's and A-11's with a 31, a 50, a 57 and one A12W. We could really use examples of an Aerobus and Medicar.
REMINDER:
ONLY 3 WEEKS LEFT TO REGISTER
CUT OFF IS MAY 21
YOU CAN NOT REGISTER THE DAY OF THE SHOW

Great news, John. We now have 25 cars registered as of today, May 1. We would like to get at least 30 Checkers there. We still need an Aerobus.
I hear that Crains Automotive News is writing an article about the show to be published next Monday, May 5. I also hear that Auto News is very interested in the Checkers coming and one of the writers is the chief judge. The June issue of Hemmings Classic Car has it listed in their Club column as our club's national meet.
We now have 33 Checkers registered as of Monday this week! Come join the fun. Be part of the largest Checker Taxi Stand in the world on June 3. We still need an Aerobus.

Heard from Byron and Jack Miller. At last count there were 34 Checkers signed up (may actually be 33 Checkers and one Michigan) ... one of the Checkers is a 1969 Medicar so if you are anywhere near Ypsi here is your chance to see one ...
