As of todays date I have 3 people signed up for the 2008 National Checker Meet in Kalamazoo June 27,28,and29. The forms have been on the web site now about two months. Also by this time everyone should have your copy of the newsletter with a sign up form in it. If you send in your form now, you will have paid for most of the cost long before the Convention.
Last time I checked with the Hotel they only had four rooms saved for the Convention. You need to call COUNTRY INN and SUITES 269 382-2303 to hold a room. Use a credit card and you will not be billed till July 2008.
Jim and I have worked hard to make this Convention a great one. The deadline for both the Hotel and sign up for the Convention is JUNE 1.

All,
I talked to Ron Leatz last night. The convention plans are all ready to go EXCEPT only a few of you have registered. Right now the count is in the twenties. The only way you will have maps to the events, etc. is if you pick up your registration packets at the hotel on Friday.
For the stuff scheduled on Saturday and Sunday, if you aren't registered we'll just charge the registration fee when we see you if we have to ... and meals won't be a big problem since the Saturday and Sunday meals are "on your own" at designated sites.
But Friday is a different story. The catered Friday afternoon BBQ has a minimum number requirement so if we don't get enough registrations by June 1 to make the minimum, we may have to cancel it. So if you've been procrastinating, we need to know if you are going to attend the BBQ. We also need to know the number of cars that will be attending the Friday night cruise-in at Pep Boys ... since there will be a surprise for everyone bringing a car to the cruise-in.
I've heard from at least a half dozen people who are planning to attend ... but Ron hasn't received your registration. Delaying past June 1 means you won't get the hotel discount (about $20 off per room per night). We've done everything we can to hold the costs down ... the only fee you HAVE to pay is the $10 per person registration ... that gets you into the Friday night cruise, the Saturday show and the Saturday night program. The other stuff (Friday BBQ, Saturday Air Zoo tour, Saturday dinner, Sunday breakfast) is all optional and you don't have to do any of it.
Gas is going to be whatever it is; none of us have any control over it. It's already around $4 where I live so waiting to see what it is in three weeks doesn't matter ... I've already resigned myself to spending up to $5 / gallon this summer.
So let's get the registrations sent in to Ron ... so we will know if the Friday BBQ will happen or not.

John,
I have registered with the club and the hotel. I don't know for certain what I'll be bringing. If I bring the 1972 Marathon I'll probably also be pulling the 1954 Checker Army trailer. If I bring the 1970 Medicar, I'll probably be trailering it with my pickup. With no passenger seat and six feet between the front and rear seats, it could make for a loooong trip if we drove it.
Are we still on for a parts sale/swap meet environment at the air museum on Saturday? If I bring the trailer, I can load up a seat and some other spare parts. _________________ Paul Worth

Paul,
I know Ron has your name on the list of registered members. (As of a couple of days ago, we're up to about 20 people for the BBQ but still need more since the caterer has a minimum.)
Last time I talked to Ron Leatz and Jim Garrison, the parts sales / swap meet was still in the plans for Saturday at the "picnic pavilion" at the Air Zoo. I'm not necessarily going to bring any parts but I might if I have time to organize things; I am bringing a Little Guy teardrop trailer just to carry all the luggage, chairs, cooler, etc. for 4 people for a week. (Sometimes even a standard size Checker isn't big enough.) And I know Rick & Bev Buck will be bringing a small open cargo trailer to carry a mobility scooter for Rick.
