The verification process is a one time process if successfully completed.

The process is kind of long but not hard.

NOTE: some people using AOL, have found they have to double
click on some items rather than single click. Because of the variety of browsers, not every combination has been tested. To the best of our knowledge, it works properly with (unmodified) Explorer, Netscape & Firefox on Windows and Netscape & Safari on Mac although occasional weird errors have been reported.

Current club members will need information from your mailing
label. If you do not have your mailing label, a number of
people, including myself, Tony Mattern and Matt Fry (sysop) can do a look up and get you the information.

Go to http://www.checkercarclub.org (which will get you to
the right page to start).

When you click the left mouse button on "click here to
verify your membership" at the top of the page, it will take
you to a second page. Scroll down to "Member Verification
Form"
where you will be prompted to enter the following
information EXACTLY (capitalization / case does matter):

Member ID = the number on the label

First Name = the first name on the label (and middle initial
with punctuation if you used a middle initial or middle name or nickname if either of these are on the label)

Last Name = the last name on the label

City = the city on the label

NOTE: if any of the above information is misspelled on the
label, enter the misspelling. You will be given an opportunity
later to correct any misinformation.

Click the left mouse button on the "submit" button on the
bottom of the page. This will take you to the page titled
"Verify Your Membership Information or Register".

Check to make sure everything is correct. Add or change as
desired. Correct any misspelling. Click the left mouse
button on the "submit" button on the bottom of the page.

You will given another chance to review and change any
incorrect information. If everything is correct, click the
left mouse button on the "submit" button on the bottom of
the page.

You should receive a message saying "Thank you (your first
name) for verifying your membership ... ... ... click here
to setup your username and password"
. Click the left mouse
button on "click here".

You are now presented with the "Taxistand Registration
Agreement"
. At the bottom of it, select the correct reply.
Most people will click the left mouse button on "exactly or
over age 13".

You are now presented a "Member Registration Information"
display. In the username field, enter the name you want to
be displayed on your messages, etc. In the E-mail address
field, enter your email address. In the Password and Confirm
password fields, enter the password you want to use.

NOTE: Both the username and password are case sensitive. In
other words, if you use capitalization here, you will have
to use it when logging in.

None of the "Optional Profile Information" must be entered.
For people who are familiar with and use them, you may
enter ICQ, AIM, MSN, etc.

None of the "Forum Preferences" must be entered / changed.
However, most people do want to change a couple of the
defaults. Most people pick "yes" for "Always show my e-mail
address". Most people also pick "yes" for "Always notify me
of replies". To pick yes for either of these, move the mouse
pointer over the "yes" button and click the left mouse
button. You may want to also adjust GMT / local time setting
if it is incorrect.

If everything is the way you want it, click the left mouse
button on the "submit" button on the bottom of the page.

You will now see the final page saying "Information, thank
you for registering. Your account has been created. You may
now log in with your username and password"
.

*** SPECIAL NOTE ***: Some users at this point have reported receiving a weird duplicate entry database error message telling them the process failed ... but it really does work most the time. If you get that message, just go to www.checkercarclub.org and try to login with the username and password you just created. If it fails, email us.

NOTE: If you supplied an email address, you will also
receive an email confirmation that will contain a copy of
your username and password. Save this email.

NOTE: Later on you can change anything you entered except
the username by selecting "profile" in the various menus.
The easiest place to find it is on the message board page.

---------------------------------------------------------

Here are some short step by step instructions on logging in
the second time (after you have "verified").

Go to www.checkercarclub.org

Scroll down until you see the menu box labeled "Login" on
the left side

In the "username" box type "abcdefg" (whatever you chose without
the quotes) in exactly the same case you used originally.

In the "password" box type "abcdefg" (whatever you chose
without the quotes) in exactly the same case you used
originally.

Check the "remember me" box by pointing at it with the
mouse and clicking the left mouse button

Click the left mouse button on the button labeled "Login"

If you are asked to remember this id and password on this
computer by your password manager or browser, click on the
"yes" button and then you won't have to type these fields again.

Note: Some browsers do the complete login process. Other browsers just fill in the username and password and you must still click on the "login" button.

Once you are logged in, have fun looking around the site and
learning how to use it.

The message board can be a bit overwhelming the first time
through. You have two basic choices, either browse each
individual forum or click on "view posts since last visit".

"View new posts" the first time will show everything since
the new site went up.

You can also choose to click on "Mark all forums read" and
from then on when you choose "view posts since last visit"
you will only see the new posts.

A couple of other hints on the message board. On the bottom
of each message you can click on "watch this topic for
replies" if you are interested in the message thread. With
the default options suggested above, you will get an email
when someone replies to that message.

If you post a message to start a topic, you will
automatically be "watching" it and will receive an email if
anyone replies to it.

Also, take time to check out the photo galleries. Joe Fay
has added some really neat old ads and other stuff. And I've
got a couple of neat albums under the Members Galleries as
John W's Lustron and John W's Travels and Misc. Other
members have added items. As of today, there are about 20
Member's Albums.

---------------------------------------------------------

If you have any problems with these instructions, either
drop me an email at jweinhoeft<@>checkercarclub.org or call me
anytime (home 217-744-2986 or Verizon cell 217-494-2986).
I'm retired and usually available at most semi-normal hours.

Note: If you are a new member trying to join and having
problems with the payment process, please contact Matt Fry at
sysop@checkercarclub.org

I've been checking the membership database and 190 of the members have something other than a single word first name in the "first name" field. This could be causing some of you problems when attempting to verifiy your membership for full web site access.

What I found was any of the following possible combinations:

A title, such as Dr.

A title with a name, such as Dr. John

Initials only, such as J.J.

A first name with middle initial, such as John J.

A first name with middle name, such as John Joseph

A Nickname, such as 'Bud'

A first name with a nickname, such as John (Bud)

A hypenated name, such as John-Joseph

In all of the above cases, the entire string, whatever it is on your mailing label, must be entered into the first name field on the verification form.

If you have any question about the proper information to enter, please email me at jweinhoeft<@>checkercarclub.org with your name and I will look you up in the database and respond in an email with the proper information for each field.
