Now that I’ve lived with the motor for several months, I’m pretty happy with it. I still have a small computer glitch to sort out sometime related to the EGR valve but it’s not a big deal. Since starting the motor, the overall gas mileage has averaged 16.5 MPG. City driving seems to be about 15.5 MPG and I have seen as high as 23.7 MPG on the highway. Fuel mileage update - I ran 1,400 miles between the Ypsilanti Show and the 2007 Hot Rod Power Tour, mostly in the 55 - 65 MPH range, and averaged 21.4 MPG. The range was from 18.55 (some local Ann Arbor driving) and 28.86 on the final short leg into Ann Arbor from Toledo (I've got the receipt but I don't really believe it ...). Long term results; in the 16,400 miles since the motor was installed, the overall average has been 16.92 MPG. If someone wanted to duplicate most of this change, here’s how the parts and cost broke down: AZ Part # Price Recon Xtreme 4.3 engine with valve, oil & timing covers 706000X1 $2,293 Casting # 10105867 core charge $377 distributor, cap, rotor, wires 765313 $152 distributor core $75 external electric fuel pump 9 -13 PSI, relay, regulator, lines $209 misc. hoses, bolts, fittings, etc. $182 water pump, thermostat 072038 $78 A/C recharge $164 new EGR $73 New A/C line, radiator, evaporator pressure test $146 new A/C dryer $34 twin electric fans w / one relay & wiring plus flex fan $217 Exhaust $65 Painless Harness & new sensors $653 Paint for engine compartment detailing $85 Air cleaner, spacers, alt belt, flywheel bolts $75 Total $4,426 Note: I've since replaced the fuel pump with a Holley 12-927 rated at 15 PSI. It costs about $30 more than the pump I originally used. More photos Cooling Artitcle
